Privacy policy

I want to be upfront about how I handle your information. This policy covers what I collect, why I collect it, and what I do (and don't do) with it. Northbeam Consult is a small consultancy — it's just me and a small team — so there's no complicated data infrastructure here. I treat your information the way I'd want mine treated.

Who I am

Northbeam Consult is a Shopify conversion consultancy operated by Faisal Hourani, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, you can reach me directly at faisal@northbeamconsult.com.

What I collect and why

When you fill out a form on this site — whether it's to request a diagnostic or download the conversion checklist — I ask for your name, email address, and sometimes your store URL. That's it. No phone number, no company size, no lengthy questionnaires.

I use this information to:

• Send you what you asked for (the diagnostic, the checklist, or a reply to your question)
• Follow up once to see if you found it helpful
• Understand which types of stores are reaching out, so I can improve my services

I do not use your information to add you to a newsletter you didn't sign up for, sell your details to anyone, or run retargeting ads based on your visit.

How I store your data

Your form submissions are sent to me via email. I keep records of client engagements in a secure, access-controlled system. I don't store credit card information — if we work together on a paid project, payments are handled through a separate invoicing provider.

Cookies and tracking

This website does not use cookies for advertising or tracking. There are no third-party analytics scripts, no Facebook pixels, and no retargeting tags. If I add any analytics in the future, I'll update this page and use a privacy-respecting service that doesn't track individuals.

Third parties

I use a small number of services to run Northbeam Consult:

• Cloudflare — hosts this website and processes form submissions. Their infrastructure may log standard server data (IP addresses, request times) for security purposes.
• Google Fonts — serves the typeface used on this site. Google may collect basic usage data per their own privacy policy.
• Email provider — I use a business email service to correspond with you. Your emails are stored on secured servers.

I do not share your personal information with anyone else unless you specifically ask me to (for example, connecting you with a development partner to implement fixes).

Your rights under PDPA

If you're in Malaysia, the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 gives you specific rights over your data. If you're in Singapore, the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 does the same. Here's what you can do:

• Access — Ask me what information I have about you, and I'll tell you.
• Correction — If something's wrong, let me know and I'll fix it.
• Withdrawal — You can ask me to stop contacting you at any time. I'll do it immediately, no questions asked.
• Deletion — You can ask me to delete your data entirely. I'll confirm once it's done.

To exercise any of these rights, just email me at faisal@northbeamconsult.com. I don't have a form for this — just tell me what you need in plain language and I'll take care of it, usually within a few business days.

Business communications

If I reach out to you about your Shopify store, it's because I genuinely believe I can help based on publicly available information about your business. Under both Malaysian and Singaporean PDPA, business-to-business communication about relevant services is permitted. That said, if you'd rather not hear from me, just say so — one email to faisal@northbeamconsult.com with "unsubscribe" and you won't hear from me again. I respect that completely.

Data retention

I keep your contact information for as long as it's relevant to our professional relationship. If we haven't been in touch for over two years, I'll remove your details from my records unless there's an ongoing engagement. If you ask me to delete your data sooner, I will.

Changes to this policy

If anything here changes meaningfully, I'll update this page and note the date at the top. I won't email you about minor wording tweaks, but if there's a material change in how I handle data, I'll let active contacts know.
